The Fire Monster -  A story for children, by children

As part of a focus on ‘Storying’ throughout the nursery in 2014/15 we have been collecting children’s stories. This story began when a two year old boy call ed Max looked into the stove in the Pre-school garden and said, ‘There’s a monster in the fire…’ 

 

The children, all under 3 years old, have created their own mythology to explore opposite but connected ideas such as: appearance & disappearance, friendly & scary, big & small.  

 

We continue to collect stories and we are also offering them back to children to develop further and to perform.  We are making visible children’s work as authors and illustrators and will publish more stories during 2015, created by children. 

Finding Our Way in the Woods: Reflections’ Approach to Forest School

A Professional Development Day focussing on how Reflections works with pre-school children in a woodland environment, and the dialogue between forest and nursery.

Reflections is recruiting 3 new senior educators

3 x PRE-SCHOOL EDUCATORS REQUIRED FOR TRIPLE-‘OUTSTANDING’, AWARD-WINNING NURSERY

Owing to expansion, Reflections is recruiting 3 new educators to join our pre-school section, supporting the learning for 3 and 4 year old children.

Reflections draws inspiration from Reggio Emilia and the forest nurseries of Denmark, combining an enquiry-based approach to learning with lots of outdoor experiences.

The role will involve working with Reflections’ approach taking responsibility for children’s learning and welfare, and having Keyperson responsibilities. Working on projects based on children’s theories and documenting children’s learning will be a significant element of the role.

The roles will be full-time, (40 hours a week) and the nursery is open 52 weeks-a-year.    

Ideally you will have a degree or equivalent qualification and experience of working with young children. Some understanding of the Reggio Approach would be useful although training and support will be provided.

Salary to be agreed, depending upon experience.

Trainee Atelierista/ Artist working with children required at Award-winning Nursery

We are recruiting a Trainee Atelierista/ Artist working with children responsible for supporting work in Reflections Pre-school, reporting to the Atelierista.

The role will include learning alongside the Atelierista, supporting children’s creative work. You would run the Atelier (studio/ workshop/ laboratory) in the Atelierista’s absence and support the children’s lines of enquiry and project work.    

The role could be full-time or part-time. 

You will be enthusiastic about children’s creativity and have a creative background yourself.  Ideally you will have experience of working with children in the early years and have some understanding of the Reggio Approach.  Training and support will be provided. 

Salary to be agreed, depending upon experience.

Reflections is recruiting for a Forest School Leader

We are recruiting a Forest School Leader responsible for leading Reflections’ woodland sessions.

The role could be either full-time; or part time (from 8.30am until 2.30pm, 44 weeks-a-year). 

The role includes: getting the children ready and taking them to the forest by minibus. Taking full responsibility for children’s welfare and documenting their experiences including a 4-page diary, e-mailed to parents after each session. You would also be responsible for managing the forest school staff team, made up of Reflections’ educators. 

Ideally you will have a deep understanding of the Reggio approach and have worked in an early years setting.  Experience of working in the woodland with children and a Forest School qualification are required. A full driving license will also be necessary.

Salary to be agreed, depending upon experience. Training could be provided for the right candidate.
